The Test of English as
Foreign Language |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
Educational Testing Service (ETS) administers the Test of English as
a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The
test is designed to evaluate the English proficiency of the test
taker – typically students whose native language
is not English. Students who have studied in an English
medium school in India and are planning to study in
foreign countries are also required to take the TOEFL.
Some
Colleges/Universities may waive the TOEFL requirement for such
students.
TOEFL is offered as a computer based as well as
paper based test.
It is a
2.30 hour exam and comprises three sections:
|
|
| |
Section
1: Listening Comprehensive
Section 2: Structure and Written Expression
Section 3: Reading Comprehensive |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
Test of Written English (TWE)
is administered along with the TOEFL on specific test dates
only. It is
a 30- minute test that measures essay-writing skills of the
individual. The student is given 30 minutes to write
an essay on specific topic (usually 300 words) |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
Test of Spoken English (TSE)
is used to evaluate spoken English skills of the test-taker.
Universities to measure the prospective students’ ability to
undertake research and teaching assignments use TSE scores. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Those students seeking a teaching assignment or research
assistantship should take the TSE. |

The
GMAT Computer-Adaptive Test (CAT)
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
CAT, the computer screen displays one question at
a time, chosen from a very large pool of
questions organized by their content and level of difficulty. The
questions that follow are determined by your responses to
all previous questions. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
CAT adjusts to your ability level – you’ll get few
questions that are either too easy or too
difficult. You must
enter an answer for each question,
and you may not return to or change your
response to any previously
answered question. If you guess or answer a question incorrectly by
mistake, you answers to the question that follow will lead you
back to the questions that are the appropriate level
of difficulty for you. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
GMAT – CAT can be taken year round at centers across India. |
